Mashaei: music is a complicated science

According to IRNA Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, the head of the Iranian Presidential Office (doesn’t that image portray him like the archetype of an evil vizier?), who has in the past months led a semi-secret operation, has in a meeting with artists expressed opinions about music which have infuriated some religious singers. In response to those religious leaders like Ayatollah Shirazi and lamenting singers who want to ban music completely in favour of Quran-reading, Mashaei said that those who suggest such ban do not know anything about music. Music as an art, its complicated science and although I agree that there are branches that can be destructive these are only drops in the sea of music. Mashaei further explains that he is not pro-west however he is ready to acknowledge that there are some features in Western cultures that in fact are positive. West has produced pure music that have helped nations and led people back on track. Those who oppose music in our country have forgot its role in the revolution, all the anthems and revolutionary songs during the war that helped the resistance. The head of the Iranian Presidential Office also adds that those religious preachers and singers who use popular music in their own music (some use old popular song and rewrite the lyrics to religious, Benyamin did the opposite) and at the same time curse at the artists should be ashamed. We should all be willing to stand corrected in case we are proved wrong in our ideas and sayings, Mashaei concludes. Personal opinion should not govern music!
